In 2009, Half the World’s Polio Cases Were in India: Today, There Are None

As of today, India has been polio-free for three years — but the virus is on its borders and could return at any time. Today India got a boost: Jan. 13 marks the country’s third year of being free of polio, the highly infectious disease that attacks the nervous system of children in particular and can paralyze within hours.
